A performing and teaching artist since 2000, Heidi has traveled internationally performing, collaborating and training. She is inspired by the moving body and it’s vast capabilities. She loves the synthesis of creativity and physicality that circus explores. Circus, movement and aerials are her creative outlets, a medium for healing the body and building strength, working though vulnerabilities and moving forward. As a teacher she focuses on alignment, building strength and flexibility and finding one’s creative voice.
She has studied aerials at the New England Center for Circus Arts since 2007 and has just compeleted an year full time in one of their “Pro” programs. She has had so many amazing coaches there including Jamie Hodgson, Lauren Bruning, Caroline Wright, Aimee Hancock and Elsie Smith- and has has done an Aerial Teacher Training.
In 2014 she and her partner, Joel Melendez, built and opened Thrive Movement Studio in NWCT so they would finally have a home base to share their arts with their community.
She is also co-founder of the touring duo, Matica Arts, whose focus is on Circus, World Music, and the Moving Arts. Matica can be found performing at many festivals, events, and schools in the North East. Heidi performs Aerial fabric, trapeze, Chinese yo-yo, juggling, hula hoop and stilts. She is also the creator of Whole Body Math, a curriculum infused kinesthetic moving math program-both for young learners and as a Professional Development for teachers. She is a teaching artist on the Hartford Performs and Arts For Learning CT/Young Audiences rosters. Aerial Fabric Intro
An accessible class for all bodies looking to try this art form. We will work close to the ground on simple poses and sequences.
Beyond Beginner- for students that have some fabric experience, who can climb and put on foot knots. Heidi will assess student level and teach new material.
We will work on simple poses under and on the bar.
Beyond Beginner Trapeze- for students who have done some trapeze work and are comfortable moving around the bar and up to standing.
